Learning Empathy, Understanding Your Body Type

This podcast originally aired on March 11, 2013.

Jillian is focusing on maximizing the good in the world and shut out the darkness.  The Restorative Justice program in the UK is bringing offenders face-to-face with their victims.  They are trying to get the offender to experience empathy.  Allows victim to gain some understanding of the person who harmed them so they can forgive them.

Forgiveness helps you to move on, and one of the best ways to move on is to develop empathy.  It gives you a sense of connectedness.  Take the time to develop empathy.

Exercises that Jillian Hates

  • Using momentum to thrust your hips up and do more reps on overhand pull-up.  Switch to a chin-up instead or do assisted overhand pull-ups.  Or do close-handed pushups.  Like chataranga, but your hands are right under your shoulders.
  • 45-degree leg press. Forces your back into a rounded position and compresses your spine.  Can cause a herniated disc, which is super bad.  Instead, do a king squat.
  • Pec-deck.  Better to do a dumbbell fly.
  • Leg extension machine
Caller

An acrobat called in!  Wanting to know why some people can eat tons of calories, and others barely eat anything, but everyone has about the same weight.

Jillian says that even though the girls don't weigh a lot, they probably aren't really healthy.  Don't sacrifice your health for aesthetic.

Jillian says... Notes from the Jillian Michaels Show Podcast

This podcast aired on March 4, 2013.

Jillian is giving relationship advice!  Looking for love?

1.  Go where people who are single and like-minded are likely to be.  Get out of the house. Go on the dating websites.  Match.com.  Plentyoffish.com.  Ask your friends to set you up.

2.  Let go of perfection.  For your and for a potential beau.  The grass is going to be greener where you water it.  On the flip side, don't feel that you can change someone to be something that they're not.  Don't think that if you're good enough, you can mold them into who you want them to be.

3.  Don't fall in love with being in love.  No need to fast-track it.  You don't get to see the real person for at least three months.  After that you see the insecurities and ugly things about people.  Important stuff.

Caller

Called Natalie.  Jillian called her as "The Love Doctor."  Natalie was cheated on.  She thinks it's her fault.  Jillian thinks the guy had issues.  Natalie said there were red flags.  Jillian said, "Aha!"

He had intrinsic issues, and Natalie thought she could change him.  You can't change somebody.  She thinks that if she's thin, good, smart, funny enough, the red flags will go away and she'll change this person.  This person is probably reminiscent of someone in her past.

When she was a child, her parents wanted her to lose weight.  Jillian wants Natalie to realize that these issues are about the old boyfriend and parents, not her.

In the future, Natalie needs to leave the relationship if she feels that dynamic of not feeling good enough.  She has to change.  She has to stop trying to be everything to everyone.  Instead of putting the energy into everyone else, she needs to put it into herself.  Turn the energy inward, and you will start to feel more fulfilled.  You won't feel depleted.

Jillian's new book is out!  Slim for Life.  Check it out.
